Rescuing Davao Street Boys
After trying to convince several orphanage directors in Davao, Philippines to help us rescue more homeless street children, it became obvious that no one wanted to risk caring for them even though they have been targeted by Davao Death Squads.
After searching the internet for children’s ministries in Davao, Dean began to communicate with Pastor Paul Barner, missionary and founder of Barner Learning Center, a very large Christian elementary school in Davao and finally asked if he would help care for homeless street kids if Sparrows Gate would fund buying a home for them.
Pastor Paul said yes and formed a non-profit corporation called Shepherd’s House. We bought a home and Pastor Paul suggested teaming up with Ben Snider to be the administrator and assist Dean in his nightly search for homeless street boys. The result is that seven precious children live at Shepherd’s House and are attending school and learning more about Jesus!
The little house is full already and so we need additional space. We hope to buy a large and affordable, rural property we found on Samal Island just one mile from downtown Davao to love and care for more street boys. A long-time mission supporter has agreed to fund half of the purchase price of the beautiful island property.
Let His islands rejoice!
